Henry County commissioners awarded a construction contract on Tuesday for the widening of West Village Parkway, formerly known as West Panola Road, in district V. The project extends between Bailey Drive and Fairview Road for a distance of 1.28 miles.
The low bid was awarded to CW Matthews Contracting of Marietta, GA in the amount of $6,472,287.00. The contractor has 720 days after the notice to proceed is issued to complete the project.
Remaining SPLOST IV funds for the project — including $3.3 million in additional collections — total $5,875,981. The difference ($596,306) will be funded through SPLOST V bond revenues.
Commissioners approved the utility relocation estimate for Snapping Shoals EMC on Tuesday ($101,851.42) and will consider the relocation estimate from the Henry County Water Authority in September. These expenses will also be deducted from SPLOST V.
Planned developments along the road include Fairview Corners Medical Campus — home to an urgent care facility and Piedmont Physicians — and a new apartment complex approved by the board in June.
Fairview area benefits from SPLOST program
Three projects in the Fairview area, including the widening of West Village Parkway, have received 84.9% of SPLOST IV district V collections. The other projects are Village Park at North Henry and the Anvil Block Road connector. Combined, the three projects represent $21.3 million in SPLOST IV investment.
Six million dollars out of SPLOST V is budgeted to construct the Fairview police precinct and rebuild fire station 6. Commissioners purchased property at the intersection of Fairview Road and Panola Road for the project in October 2018.
Requests for proposals (RFPs) were accepted last month for the new buildings.
Finally, widening Fairview Road between Panola Road and Patillo Road is budgeted to receive $11 million in SPLOST V district V collections. Widening Fairview Road through the commercial sector was completed in SPLOST III for $13.8 million.
