Here is a look at some of the most notable rezoning requests that are pending across the county as we prepare to enter 2020. The list is not all encompassing so be sure and follow us on social media to keep up with the latest news.
1496 Millers Mill Road
A proposed rezoning and conservation subdivision on Millers Mill Road in Woodland has been postponed several times in the last few months awaiting a final decision by the board of commissioners. The rezoning request appears to be taking a step back in the process and is scheduled before the zoning advisory board on Thursday, January 9, at 6:30 pm.
US 19 / 41 at Spalding County line
A rezoning request for forty acres to build light industrial buildings was redrawn after its first proposal failed to conform with the highway corridor overlay district’s prohibition against new warehouses. The zoning advisory board heard the request in July and it has been postponed at a board of commissioners meeting as recently as November.
Symphony Park
In McDonough, Blue River Development is proposing 499 residential units on 107 acres west of Travis Drive. The rezoning public hearing was scheduled in December but postponed until 2020.
The development proposes a combination of single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments. Previously planned connectivity with properties to the west and south appears mostly removed in the most recent site plan.
Campground Road at Bryans Drive
Continuing with McDonough requests, an application for annexation and rezoning on Campground Road proposes 293 lots on 183.18 +/- acres. The applicant reduced their number of lots from a previous high of 410 after Henry County filed an objection but the city council ultimately has to make the final decision.
A nearby second application for annexation and rezoning proposes 399 lots on Turner Church Road. Henry County objected to the annexation in September and a resolution on the objection has not yet been presented.
Kelleytown Grocery Store
Questions regarding sewer availability may effect the eventual outcome on a proposed grocery store at state route 155 and Kelleytown Road. The rezoning portion of the request is scheduled before the zoning advisory board on Thursday, January 9, at 6:30 pm following the ZAB’s tabling of the request in November.
East Lake Parkway at Springdale
The board of commissioners tabled this request in October to allow more time to identify zoning conditions and it was postponed again in November. The development proposes townhouses and duplexes in a residential suburban (RS) rezoning.
