Several new apartments are in varying stages of construction near I-75 exit 221 / Jonesboro Road. Tapestry Overbrook, Somerset Apartments and McDonough Apartments (construction project title) have estimated openings in 2023 and 2024.
In 2020, two new apartment complexes opened within the exit 221 vicinity. Since then, Henry County has seen a number of property owners submit applications to develop new apartments within the area. Here’s a look at the details available on three projects presently under construction.
Tapestry Overbrook
Tapestry Overbrook is a new 260-unit project off Foster Drive. The site is across the street from LA Fitness and the movie theater. Construction is in the early stages: grading and underground utilities.
Arlington Properties of Birmingham, AL is developing the eighteen-acre site. The project has 40% one-bedroom units, 50% two-bedroom and 10% three-bedroom units. Henry County approved the applicant’s rezoning request in August 2021.
The development has an expected opening in 2024.
Somerset Apartments
Somerset Apartments represents the third apartment complex off Towne Centre Village Drive. The development is possible following a 2019 modification of zoning conditions. The modification allows for a total of 840 apartment units off Towne Centre. Specific to Somerset Apartments, they can build up to 316 units.
Construction is well underway on the four-story buildings. Despite the project’s construction progress, MHF News was unable to find additional details about the project online.
McDonough Apartments

Finally, South City Partners of Atlanta is developing a new apartment complex beside McDonough Christian Church. McShane Construction Company is the project contractor.
The project, referred to as McDonough Apartments in construction documents, will have 280 units on twenty-one acres. As of August 2022, the pouring of building foundations is nearly complete. Framing is also beginning.
Estimated completion is in October 2023.
