County commissioners approved a contract on Tuesday, September 15, for design-build services at the upcoming Fairview public safety campus. The contract was awarded to J.R. Bowman Construction Company, Inc. of McDonough, GA.

The contract is valued at $3,941,000 and is funded through SPLOST collections. The item was added to the agenda at the start of the meeting before being unanimously approved.

The project includes design and construction services for the Fairview police precinct and rebuild of fire station 6. The property — purchased by Henry County in October 2018 — is located at the intersection of Fairview Road and Panola Road.

The rebuild of fire station 6 will closely resemble the rebuild of fire station 8, completed earlier this year on Jodeco Road and also constructed by J.R. Bowman Construction. The three-bay station measuring 9,000 square feet will feature sleeping quarters for eight personnel and a day area with commercial kitchen and living room.

The existing fire station 6 was constructed in 1989.

The Fairview police precinct will be a 2,750 square foot building. The scope of work for the building includes the following:

  • Front office area, including a lobby with reception area / counter, conference / interview room, and one handicap-accessible restroom.
  • Rear office area, including two 150 sq ft offices, men’s and women’s restrooms, open space for cubicles, and break room / kitchenette.
  • Mechanical / IT room and janitorial room.
  • Parking lot with thirty spaces.

The police precinct is the first to be built out of four budgeted in SPLOST V. Others are to be located in commission districts II, III, and IV.
