Seventy percent of SPLOST IV projects complete

The Henry County SPLOST program provides funds for capital projects and transportation improvements through the collection of a local one-percent sales tax. An update to the program budget was recently published, dated September 13, 2019.

The SPLOST IV program was approved by voters in November 2013 with collections beginning on April 1, 2014. Collections will continue through March 31, 2020. Program expenditures to date, including $4.2 million from other funding sources, total $125,500,555.

SPLOST IV is estimated to collect $190 million dollars over six years, from which seventy-five percent of collections are distributed to Henry County. The remaining twenty-five percent is distributed to the county’s municipalities. Based on these estimates, Henry County’s SPLOST IV budget totals $142.5 million.

Projects

In Countywide Projects, thirteen (13) of seventeen (17) projects are complete. Completed projects include three new fire stations serving the Luella, Dutchtown, and Kelleytown communities, replacement and upgrade of the county’s E-911 radio network, and Building B at Southern Crescent Technical College McDonough. An additional four projects are in progress, including a north Henry police precinct and new sewer line in the Fairview area.

In District I projects, fourteen (14) of nineteen (19) projects are complete. Completed projects include kitchen renovations at the Locust Grove senior center, the new roundabout at Old Jackson Road and South Bethany Road, Harris Drive dirt road paving, and the Jackson Lake Road bridge replacement project. Five projects are in progress, including construction on McDonough Parkway, right of way acquisition on the Peeksville Road dirt road paving, and preliminary engineering to widen state route 81.

In District II projects, nineteen (19) of twenty five (25) projects are complete. Completed projects include the Bear Creek senior center / recreation center, the Jodeco at Blackhall Road roundabout, a new traffic signal at SR 81 and Mill Road, and Amah Lee Road dirt road paving. Projects under construction include intersection improvements at Hampton-Locust Grove Road and Simpson Mill Road & South Cleveland Church dirt road paving.

In District III projects, nineteen (19) of twenty five (25) projects are complete. Completed projects include the North Ola Park expansion, roundabouts along state route 20 and Lake Dow Road, and paving on Turner Church Road. Additional turn lanes are under construction at State Route 155 and Campground Road, and right of way acquisition is in progress for the northern segment of McDonough Parkway.

In District IV projects, eight (8) of thirteen (13) projects are complete. Completed projects include Bud Kelley Park, intersection improvements at SR 138 and Hemphill Road, and Elliott Road dirt road paving. District IV funding has also contributed to the Campground Road extension opened last month and preliminary engineering to widen Rock Quarry Road.

In District V projects, five (5) of eleven (11) projects are complete. Completed projects include Village Park at North Henry, Cochran Park improvements, and the Anvil Block Road widening. Right of way acquisition is in progress for the West Village Parkway widening between Clayton County and Fairview Road.
