BOC approves construction for Simpson Mill at Hampton-Locust Grove Road intersection improvements

Henry County approved a construction contract earlier this week to install a traffic light at the intersection of Simpson Mill Road and Hampton-Locust Grove Road in the Luella area. The new traffic light is funded through SPLOST IV dollars.

Six bids were received and reviewed for the project. The lowest bid was awarded to CMES, Inc. of Norcross, GA in the amount of $1,531,092.00. The contractor has 360 calendar days to complete the project after the notice to proceed is issued by the county.

The construction costs are higher than a typical intersection improvement because of box culvert work required along Hampton-Locust Grove Road. The roadway must be raised over the existing box culvert to address vertical alignment requirements for the traffic signal. Approximately one-third of the project costs ($508,584) cover site grading.

A budget amendment in the amount of $1,173,241.00 was needed for utility relocation and construction. The funds were sourced from the State Route 155 project account. Widening state route 155 between I-75 and Bill Gardner Parkway will be funded by Georgia Department of Transportation.

The project will add left and right turning lanes on Hampton-Locust Grove Road and maintain the existing lane configurations on Simpson Mill Road and Derek Place. Simpson Mill has a right turn lane and shared left-through lane at the intersection.
