The long-awaited Campground Road extension, a project twenty years in the making, is scheduled to open to traffic on Tuesday, August 20. The $19 million dollar project has been funded through Henry County SPLOST.

Construction for the project was awarded to McCoy Grading, Inc of Greenville, GA in March 2017. The lowest bid was $13,327,208.26 funded through a combination of SPLOST II, SPLOST III, and SPLOST IV dollars. Total project costs exceed $19 million dollars factoring in design work, right of way acquisition, and utility relocation.

The most notable improvement within the project is a new four-lane $9 million dollar bridge that will allow traffic to bypass the busy Norfolk Southern railroad. The bridge was constructed with four lanes now to save dollars in the future when Campground Road is widened.

Once traffic has been shifted to the new alignment and the new traffic signal activated at Georgia 42 and Campground Road, the existing Campground Road will be barricaded across from O’Reilly Auto Parts. The existing alignment will be disconnected from Georgia 42 and old traffic signal removed during final phases of construction.

Thank you to Henry County leadership and department staff for moving this project forward. Special appreciation is due to immediate past district IV commissioner Blake Prince, whose commitment to prioritize this project ensured construction was able to start and the roadway finished within SPLOST IV.
