McDonough City Council May 2 preview

The McDonough city council will meet on Thursday, May 2, at 6 pm for their monthly workshop meeting. Meetings are held at city hall on Keys Ferry Street.

Agenda items include votes on two rezoning requests that were previously tabled in April, workshop discussions about two upcoming rezoning requests, and continued discussion/ public hearing about the city’s FY 2020 budget.

Public hearing requirements have been met for the tabled rezoning requests with final votes expected from the city council on Thursday evening. The requests include a new single-family subdivision on Lake Dow Road and Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel on Avalon Court.

The workshop review sessions will cover two rezoning requests and one conditional use permit that are scheduled for public hearings at the council’s May 20 meeting. The requested conditional use permit is to allow a bed and breakfast at 19 Keys Ferry Street on the McDonough Square.

General Holdings Unlimited, LLC of McDonough, GA has requested annexation into McDonough city limits and rezoning to R-75 for 183.18 +/- acres located on Campground Road. The proposal includes an estimated 410 homes on the property.

The proposed R-75 zoning district allows lot sizes as small as 12,000 square feet and is inconsistent with Henry County’s future land use map designation of low density residential for the property. Approximately one half-mile down the road, a separate rezoning request for a subdivision with half-acre lots (22,000 sq ft) is pending within unincorporated Henry County along Elliot Road.

A second rezoning request is to revert 6.8 acres located along highway 155 from C-3 (highway commercial) to M-1 (light industrial) to develop an office park. The property, located south of Labonte Parkway, is proposed to be developed into seven office/warehouse buildings totaling approximately 70,000 square feet of building space. The buildings would be subdivided into 5,000 square foot spaces to house small businesses. A small portion of the tract, approximately one half-acre along the highway road frontage, would remain C-3 for a potential commercial end user.

Residents within the city of McDonough and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend Thursday’s council meeting. The full meeting agenda is available to view on the city website.
