The McDonough Police Department will be adding a few new vehicles to its fleet. The city council approved the purchase of five new vehicles in November 2024.

The McDonough Police Department will be receiving three (3) 2025 Kia Telluride LX and two (2) 2024 EV6 Light Range RWD vehicles from Hutchinson Kia in Macon, GA. The vehicle equipment will come from West Chatham Warning Devices in Savannah. The total cost will be $209,395.15.

The new vehicles will replace existing high-mileage vehicles in the department’s fleet. According to McDonough Police Chief Nobles, the city has a 2010 Dodge Charger among others he is looking to phase out.

The purchase includes the city’s first electric vehicles. The KIA EV6 is a four-door crossover utility vehicle. The city council approved in October a plan to install electric vehicles charging stations. They will be installing six EV chargers at the city’s public works building on Racetrack Road.

More information about the price quote, such as the cost of each vehicle, was not uploaded as part of the city’s meeting packet. Council members remarked at the meeting the Macon dealership’s quote was lower than the local KIA dealership in McDonough. Councilwoman Thomas thanked the city’s police chief for saving money.

The McDonough council approved the new police vehicles on November 18, 2024. They will use ARPA funds to pay for it. McDonough has until the end of the year to allocate its remaining ARPA dollars. The city received ARPA funds from the federal government following the COVID-19 pandemic.
