The Henry County Board of Commissioners have approved a plan to keep the traffic signal at SR 20 / 81 and McDonough Parkway. The present-day signal was installed for only temporary use during three days of road closures along Jonesboro Road as part of the one-way pair project.
Henry County DOT and the county manager worked with Georgia DOT to leave the signal in place after the original short-term plan was realized. The city of McDonough will cover $50,000 of the expense, and the county will pay the remainder. Total signal costs will be $86,155. SPLOST IV funds in the McDonough Parkway account will be utilized.

The signal will remain in place until the State Route 20 widening project scheduled to break ground in 2021. The widening project has plans to convert the intersection into a two-lane roundabout.
The Henry County BOC has approved a $5.2 million dollar contract to begin construction on the southwest segment of the parkway. The project will build a new four lane roadway between Henry Parkway and state route 20.
