Two New Traffic Lights

The Henry County commissioners approved the install costs during their November 19 meeting. They will use SPLOST V funds to pay for East Lake at Airline, and transportation impact fees to pay for Jodeco at Oak Grove. Both items passed unanimously by the board.

The county accepted bids until Wednesday, September 25, for two new traffic lights. They received one bid for each location. Reedwick, LLC from Villa Rica, GA submitted the following:

  • East Lake at Airline – $110,695.00
  • Jodeco at Oak Grove – $132,079.00
  • Total: $242,774

The contractor has previously installed other traffic lights in Henry County. They include Rock Quarry Road at Red Oak, and Bill Gardner Pkwy at Lester Mill. Most recently, they installed the signal on East Lake Road at Elliott Road.

Reedwick will have 60 days to complete each project. The new signals should be operational in the first few months of 2025.

Temporary Traffic Signal

Henry County considers both locations to be temporary traffic signals. This is because the county has future road widening projects at each location. The current project will not construct new turn lanes at the traffic lights. Instead, the future road widening will make more substantial improvements. Each of the aforementioned locations on East Lake, Bill Gardner Pkwy and Rock Quarry are also all considered to be temporary.

Design work for the future road widening projects are part of the county’s upcoming SPLOST VI program. They include the following:

  • East Lake Road between SR 155 and SR 20, and
  • Oak Grove Road from Jonesboro Road to Jodeco Road.

A number of other widening projects are also part of SPLOST VI. Voters approved the SPLOST program earlier this month. The sales tax collections will begin in April 2025. View the full project list here.
