Henry County accepted bids in September 2024 for two new traffic lights. The two new signals will cost the county less than $250 thousand. The intersections in question are Jodeco at Oak Grove, and East Lake at Airline.
New Traffic Lights September 2024
Henry County accepted bids until Wednesday, September 25, for two new traffic lights. They received one bid for each location. Reedwick, LLC from Villa Rica, GA submitted the following:
- East Lake at Airline – $110,695.00
- Jodeco at Oak Grove – $132,079.00
- Total: $242,774
The contractor has previously installed traffic lights in Henry County. They were Rock Quarry Road at Red Oak, and Bill Gardner Pkwy at Lester Mill. Most recently, they installed the signal on East Lake Road at Elliott Road.
The board of commissioners could consider approving the projects at their October 15 meeting. If so, then the new signals could be operational before year’s end. Otherwise, expect them in early 2025. The contractor will have 60 days to complete each project.
Temporary Traffic Signal
Henry County considers both locations to be a temporary traffic signal. This is because the county has future road widening projects. The current project will not construct new turn lanes at the traffic lights. Instead, the future road widening will make more substantial improvements. The county followed a similar model for the other locations completed by Reedwick.
Design work for the future road widening projects are part of the county’s upcoming SPLOST VI referendum. They are East Lake Road and Oak Grove Road. Voters will consider whether to approve SPLOST VI in November. A future program, such as transportation SPLOST 2, may then pay for construction.
