Henry County commissioners approved a bid award to install a temporary traffic signal. The new signal will be at East Lake Road and Elliott Road.
Henry County solicited bids for the signal in October. One vendor responded to the bid.
East Lake Road Signal
The SPLOST V program set aside $250,000 to improve East Lake at Elliott Road. This funding was meant to fund the design work for future improvements. SPLOST V also included the following:
- East Lake Road widening design only, and
- East Lake at Rowan Drive design only.
Finally, the program budgeted $2 million dollars for East Lake at Airline Road.
Voters approved the SPLOST V program in November 2019. Collections began in April 2020. Later that year, the county hired Croy Engineering for design. The county combined the future widening project and intersections into one design contract. The contract cost was $395 thousand.
The county opted to move forward with a temporary signal at Elliott Road. The temporary signal will make no changes to the roadway, such as adding turn lane(s). The signal is temporary because the future widening will provide further improvements. The county followed a similar model at SR 20 and Turner Church Road. A roundabout has since been completed at such location.
The lone bidder, Reedwick LLC, provided a quote of $90,913. The cost will be split 50 / 50 between districts 3 & 4 SPLOST V funds. Depending on signal parts availability, installation could be complete in a few months.
