The county voters approved SPLOST VI in November 2024. Now, less than two months later, Henry County is advertising proposals for design work on three road projects.

Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) are due in January for the following projects:

  • Jonesboro Road widening, phase II,
  • Willow Lane widening, and
  • Keys Ferry Road extension.

First SPLOST VI Road Projects

The county’s SPLOST VI program will start collections in April 2025. Though collections aren’t for a few months, Henry County is teeing up projects to hit the ground running. They have shared three proposals for design services. These projects represent the first SPLOST VI road projects to move forward.

The Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) are each due on Friday, January 24, 2025. Afterwards, staff will review the proposals received. Then, they can negotiate a contract for each design project.

The three RFQs cover the following projects:

  • Jonesboro Road widening, phase II, between North Mt Carmel Road and the Clayton County line,
  • Willow Lane widening, from Jonesboro Road to Bridges Road, and
  • Keys Ferry Road extension, a new road between State Route 81 at Keys Ferry Road and North Ola Road at Ola High School.

Following staff review and contract negotiations, this should allow the board of commissioners to consider a design contract for each project in spring 2025. This will coincide with the start of SPLOST VI collections.

SPLOST VI includes construction funding for both Willow Lane and Keys Ferry Road. The Jonesboro Road widening project is design only. Subsequent funding for right of way and construction may be part of the county’s T-SPLOST 2 program.

Other SPLOST VI Road Projects

In addition to the projects above, SPLOST VI has a number of other road projects. Some projects include East Lake Road widening, Oak Grove Road widening and Hampton-Locust Grove Road widening. Similar to Jonesboro Road, these projects have design and / or right of way funding in SPLOST VI. Additional requests for design services on these projects will likely follow in the near future.

Altogether, there’s over $2 billion dollars in road improvements forthcoming to Henry County. This includes Georgia DOT projects, T-SPLOST projects and SPLOST projects. Visit my map of major road projects.
