Finally, the planning commission will discuss the upcoming Chapter 17 text amendment. This is a major rewrite and update of the McDonough city development code. The council is expected to consider adopting these changes at their Monday, October 21, meeting. When they adopt the code update, then the city’s moratorium on apartments, hotels and certain subdivision zoning districts will expire.

About the City’s Zoning Process
The planning commission considers each item twice before making their recommendation. They first consider each request in what’s called a workshop session. Then, typically one month later, they conduct public review about the agenda item. This review includes a public hearing and they make their recommendation.
The McDonough city council similarly looks at each request twice. They look at the request during their workshop session, then hold the public hearing at the regular meeting. The city council meetings are generally in the same month as the planning board’s public review. This schedule is subject to change if an applicant postpones their request.
If an item is part of the workshop session this month, then we can reasonably expect the council will consider it next month. The McDonough city council meets on the first Thursday (workshop) and third Monday (regular meeting) of each month.
