Georgia 20 Resurfacing

The state DOT accepted construction bids in September 2024 for the Georgia 20 resurfacing. They received three bids for the project.

GDOT announced on Friday, October 4, they approved a project contract. The work will be done by CW Matthews Contracting, Co. of Marietta, GA. They submitted a low bid of $10,725,072.00. The contract completion date is August 31, 2025.

The resurfacing work will presumably occur in spring and summer 2025. This is so to avoid cold temperatures during the winter. The cold weather prevents asphalt from properly setting.

About Georgia 20

State Route 20 between Hampton and I-75 was widened to four lanes in 2002–2005. Based on the state’s website, there are no records of resurfacing activity since then. If so, then the upcoming resurfacing will replace the current asphalt of about twenty years old.

To the east of I-75, a separate project to widen Georgia 20 is under construction. The widening is from I-75 to Phillips Drive. It has an estimated completion date in summer 2025.
