Another set of roads will soon see resurfacing in Henry County. The county commissioners approved $5.1 million worth of work at their Tuesday night meeting. The work represents the county’s 2nd road resurfacing contract in 2024.

Earlier this year, the board of commissioners allocated $3.75 million for additional road work. SPLOST funding will supplement the difference.

2024 Road Resurfacing 2nd Contract

Henry County accepted construction bids through Wednesday, June 5, for the road resurfacing. They received seven bids. Blount Construction Company, Inc. of Marietta, GA submitted the lowest bid. Their bid totaled $5,105,941.10.

The contract covers 18 roads. They include the following:

  • Hillview Road (from Church Road to Rocky Creek Road)
  • Old Conyers Road (from Mays Road to Flat Rock Road)
  • South Salem Drive (from Campground Road to North Salem Drive)
  • Avalon Drive (Avalon Subdivision)
  • Avalon Way (Avalon)
  • Caroline Court (Salem Landing Subdivision)
  • Jana Lane (Salem Landing)
  • Salem Circle (Salem Landing)
  • Salem Court (Salem Landing)
  • Rhonda Drive (from Miller’s Mill Road to Flat Rock Road)
  • Shari Court (from Rhonda Drive to cul-de-sac)
  • Bedford Crossing (Rowanshyre Subdivision)
  • Hennepin Terrace (Rowanshyre)
  • Sheffield Chase (Rowanshyre)
  • Shade Walk (Rowanshyre)
  • Illion Run (Rowanshyre)

The contractor will also complete patching work on sections of East Atlanta Road and Flippen Road. They will have 180 days to complete the work following the notice to proceed.

SPLOST III Budget Amendment & Spalding County

Henry County commissioners allocated $3.75 million for road repairs in February. This will contribute the majority of funding for the contract. In addition, Henry County and Spalding County approved an intergovernmental agreement for Hillview Road. The road is located on the county line. Spalding County will contribute $732,500 towards its resurfacing.

Finally, the county will use some remaining dollars from SPLOST III. The SPLOST III program spanned collections from 2008 to 2014. Specifically, they will use $623,441.10 from SPLOST III collections.

Other Resurfacing Work

Earlier this spring, the county approved its first resurfacing contract. It cost $6.7 million dollars for 14 miles of work. There should be one more resurfacing contract coming soon. This is because Georgia lawmakers allocated $250 million for local road repairs in the mid-year state budget. Henry County will receive about $3.1 million through this effort.
