Which Cities Are Growing in Henry? See the Latest Census Estimates.

Which cities are growing in Henry County? The US Census Bureau has released their 2024 city population estimates. They shared county population estimates earlier in the year.

The US Census Bureau estimates that two Henry County cities are gaining population. They estimate the other two cities are losing population.

2024 City Population Estimates

During the last year, McDonough and Locust Grove are gaining population. Meanwhile, Hampton and Stockbridge are slightly losing population. The census bureau’s latest population estimates for each city include the following:

  • Stockbridge – 35,452
  • McDonough – 32,138
  • Locust Grove – 10,730
  • Hampton – 8,290

The census bureau estimates Henry County has a total of 254,613 residents. This was 6,000 residents more than the previous year. All estimates are as of July 1, 2023.

Now, let’s look at each city:

Stockbridge

0.6% decline from 2020 to 2023

Note: Stockbridge had an original 2020 Census population of 28,973. They annexed about 6,700 residents effective in January 2023. The Census Bureau appears to be retroactively applying the annexation to 2020.

The US Census Bureau released its city population estimates on May 16, 2024. The April 2020 population counts are from the 2020 census. The annual estimates may have later revisions.

A Glimpse Into the Future

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) updated their long-range forecasts earlier this year. They estimate Henry County will be home to 346,000 residents in the year 2050.

Metro Atlanta is now the sixth-largest metro in the USA. It surpassed Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., in the last year. The ARC estimates the region will grow to 7.9 million residents by 2050. This represents an increase of 1.8 million people since the 2020 census.
