During the first six months of 2022, Henry County local governments issued 1,620 housing unit building permits. This represents a 23% increase over the same timeframe in 2021.

About 60% of new construction is located within unincorporated Henry County. The rest is shared among the county’s four cities.

Building Permits 2022

So far this year, Henry County has seen 1,100 new single-family homes start construction. In addition, builders received 520 permits for new multifamily construction. During the first half of 2021, these numbers were 1,293 and 24 respectively. Therefore, the pace of single-family construction is down about 15% year-to-year.

On the contrary, multifamily construction could potentially break local annual records. Since 2000, no single year had more than 750 multifamily unit permits. Secondly, only four years saw between 600–750 units.

Housing permit data is made available through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Specifically, HUD produces the State of the Cities data systems.
