Meetings the Week of February 24, 2025
Locust Grove Council
First, the Locust Grove council meets on Monday, February 24, at 6 pm. The council meets at the city’s public safety building on Highway 42.
The meeting agenda has a public hearing to consider revisions to the city’s gravel truck parking lot ordinance. The council first adopted the gravel truck lot code section in January 2023. Only nine months later, they adopted a moratorium after receiving multiple requests to take advantage of the code section.
The agenda also includes a presentation by Henry County Tax Commissioner Michael Harris about homestead exemption. The city is accepting homestead exemption applications up to April 1. Locust Grove has a 100% homestead exemption on city property taxes. Homeowners must apply to receive the exemption, even if they already receive the county’s exemption. Forms are available online here.
Schedule Note
This meeting is one week later than its usual slot. It begins a run of four meetings which the council will hold on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, instead of their usual 1st and 3rd Monday. The council moved these meetings based on holidays and school breaks. Locust Grove will return to its regular schedule in mid-April.
Stockbridge Council
Next, the Stockbridge council meets on Tuesday, February 25, at 6 pm. They meet at Stockbridge City Hall. The council will consider adopting the city’s trails implementation plan. They will also consider approving a new flex paver to replace the grass seating area at the amphitheater.
Henry County BOC
Continuing on Tuesday night, the Henry County commissioners meet at 6:30 pm. Their meetings are at the county admin building in McDonough.
Agenda items include the following:
- Seven resolutions in support of various legislation at the State Capitol,
- Adopt a mid-year FY 2025 budget adjustment, and
- three public hearings for a Keys Ferry Road single-family home subdivision, Westridge Parkway condominum / townhomes subdivision, and Peach Drive detached cluster home subdivision. A public hearing for a subdivision off Wildwood Road is postponed.
The full county agenda is available on the county’s website.
Hampton Council
Lastly on Tuesday, the Hampton council will hold their third and final House Bill 581 public hearing. The HB 581 hearing will be at 6:30 pm. The council will then meet at 7 pm to consider staying in or opting-out of HB 581. The city’s financial advisor is recommending they stay in the homstead exemption. Hampton meetings are at Hampton City Hall.
McDonough Council
Finally, the McDonough council will hold its three hearings on House Bill 581. Whereas Hampton has an existing homestead exemption, McDonough does not presently offer one. HB 581 would be the city’s first exemption, if the council remains in.
The three hearings will be at the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, February 26, at 6:00 pm,
- Thursday, February 27, at 10:00 am, and
- Thursday, February 27, at 6:00 pm.
