Here are a few construction updates around McDonough as of July 2022. Specifically, RaceTrac is building a new service station off highway 155. In addition, BJs Wholesale Club is returning to McDonough after an 11-year hiatus.

RaceTrac service station

The new RaceTrac service station is under construction near I-75 and state route 155. The property is located northeast of I-75 with road frontage on both SR 155 and Industrial Blvd.

McDonough approved a rezoning request for the project in summer 2020. The project plans include diesel fuel pumps for tractor-trailers. The dual road frontage also better accommodates truck movement into and out of the site.

When complete, the building exterior and site landscaping will closely mirror the RaceTrac station at highway 20 and Willow Lane.

BJs Wholesale Club

After closing their first McDonough store in 2011, BJ’s Wholesale Club is making their return to the geranium city. The company has a new location under construction at the South Point area off I-75 exit 218.

The new store will be located near Dave & Busters. Site access will be off state route 81. Also under construction near South Point is a new apartment complex.

The diverging diamond interchange recently opened to improve traffic flow in the state route 20 area. Georgia DOT is also planning to construct dual southbound left-hand turn lanes at the intersection of state route 20 and state route 81.
