In today’s Henry Minutes, I provide updates on four parks & recreation projects. They include the wedding venue at Nash Farm Park, new scoreboards and tree clearing for a disc golf course. Henry Minutes is a collection of news from around Henry County.
Nash Farm Wedding Venue
MHF News previously reported on the RFP to hire an architect for a new wedding pavilion at Nash Farm Park. Nash Farm Park is located off Jonesboro Road in district II.
Commissioners approved awarding the design contract to Croft & Associates of Kennesaw, GA. Design costs total $98,500. The board awarded the contract during its May 4 meeting.
SPLOST V funds will contribute to the costs of the project. District II budgeted $3.3 million dollars for Nash Farm Park improvements within the program.
New Scoreboards
In addition, the board awarded a contract for new scoreboards at Warren Holder Park. The project includes the purchase and installation of eight (8) scoreboards for the baseball fields.
Henry County will purchase the scoreboards from Electro-Mech Scoreboard Co. of Wrightsville, GA for $21,184. Benton Electric, also of Wrightsville, will install the boards for $3,690. Capital improvement funds are paying for the work.
Henry County is presently accepting bids for fence repairs at various parks. Bids close on May 26 at 3 pm.
Sports Field Lightning
During the board’s May 4 meeting, new sports field lighting was approved. The field lighting covers two soccer / lacrosse fields under construction off Panola Road.
Musco Lighting, LLC of Oskaloosa, Iowa provided a quote equaling $279,882.00. The package includes both equipment and installation to provide field lighting. SPLOST V funds will pay for the project.
JP Moseley Disc Golf
Finally, the county is in the early stages of a disc golf course expansion at JP Moseley Park. The park is off Millers Mill Road between SR 155 and SR 138.
The county accepted bids in March for tree clearing along the new course. The course will be along the western property line. Nine new holes will compliment the existing twenty-seven holes when complete.
New Urban Forestry, LLC of Athens, GA received the clearing work for $25,750.00. Because the contract value was below $50,000, board action was not required. Instead, the county manager can sign off on the work.
