Henry County is accepting proposals from qualified vendors for architectural design services on two park projects. The county is also accepting bids to renovate a concession building at North Ola Park.
All three proposals are due by February 17 at 3 pm. The board of commissioners will consider awarding contracts after staff review the submissions.
Mickie D. Cochran Park
In the first park project for commission district 4 under SPLOST V, the county is looking for an architect for Mickie D. Cochran Park. The 12.4-acre park is located on Banks Road in Stockbridge. Furthermore, the park is located outside city limits in unincorporated Henry County.
The selected architect will assist the county in designing a renovation of the entire park. The design scope includes the following:
- Small community / meeting center
- Tennis / pickleball courts
- Walking trail
- Football field and concession building
- Disc Golf course
- Playground
- Pavilions
- Public restrooms
- Public art
District 4 budgeted $7,783,124 in SPLOST V for a new park and park upgrades. Other county-maintained parks in the district include JP Moseley Park — where $1.7 million is available in SPLOST IV for improvements — and Bud Kelley Park. Surprisingly, Mickie D. Cochran Park has never received county SPLOST funds based on a review of past project budgets.
Nash Farm Park
In commission district 2, the county is accepting proposals for an architect to design a corporate wedding pavilion. According to county documents, the venue should be able to seat 200–250 people in a large open-air setting.
Other requirements include a large ornamental stone fireplace. The venue should also use a heavy timber structure with tongue and groove wood ceiling.
The county plans to locate the pavilion at Nash Farm Park. The SPLOST V program set aside nearly $3.3 million for the park. The large pavilion is part of a master plan developed in 2009.
In September, the board awarded the installation of a fire sprinkler system at the existing activity barn. The $309,542 contract is expected to come out of SPLOST V. A Request for Proposals (RFP) to remodel the barn closed in December, but has not yet been presented to the board to consider awarding a contract.
North Ola Park
Finally, the county is accepting bids to renovate the existing concession building at North Ola Park. The county opened two new baseball fields at the park during SPLOST IV.
District 3 budgeted $1.5 million for park projects. The district also budgeted $1 million for Heritage Senior Center / Heritage Park improvements. Henry County accepted proposals in December for a fitness room addition at the senior center.
