Henry County Schools announced on Monday evening, January 4, that the second semester will start utilizing remote learning. The start of the second semester was previously adjusted to begin on Monday, January 11.

For students and families that have opted into on-campus learning, the earliest date campuses may reopen is Monday, January 25.

Henry County Schools released the following statement:

Good evening, Henry County Schools Families,

As shared in an earlier communication with you this week, we have kept a keen eye on the local impacts of COVID-19 in our community, and we have unfortunately seen the number of cases rise dramatically in our county. This troubling trend created a sense of urgency in our school district to look at all options for the continued health and wellbeing of our school community.

In our board-approved Gradual and Staggered Return to Campus Plan adopted originally on August 31 and updated on October 19, the process by which the district would shift to remote operations when needed, was outlined. Key to this comprehensive formalized plan is the expectation by the board of education that the superintendent work with our strong and well-established community partners – Georgia Department of Public Health District 4 officials, Piedmont Henry Hospital executives, and county emergency management agency officials. As a result of continued and in-depth consultations over the semester break and late into this evening, it has been determined that all learning will move to full remote starting Monday, January 11, with a current anticipated return to optional on-campus learning on Monday, January 25.

A decision such as this is not made in isolation, and like similar critical decisions made during this pandemic, we are confident in the sound collaboration with trusted partners and experts. Along with the full endorsement and agreement from the board of education, our school community will continue its successful efforts in providing an exceptional educational experience and a focus on the health and wellbeing of all students, staff, families, and community members.

More information on essential operations for the successful continuation of remote instruction will be released this week. Thank you as always for your support and understanding during these complex times.
