Racetrac Petroleum, Inc. has submitted a new rezoning request to the city of McDonough for a proposed location on highway 155 south. The proposed development is requesting a rezoning from C-2 (central commercial) to C-3 (highway commercial).
The project is located at 716 – 726 Highway 155 South between I-75 North and King Mill Road. The existing structures, a vacant business and Days Inn, were built in 1970.
The property is located along an upcoming Georgia DOT widening project. The project, to widen SR 155 between I-75 and US 23 / SR 42, is in preliminary engineering with an open house anticipated this spring to present the plans to the general public. Construction is scheduled to start in fall 2023.
RaceTrac built two new stations in Henry County in 2018, located on highway 20 / 81 and Jodeco Road. The company had a third location proposed at Jonesboro Road and Willow Lane, but withdrew the request in early 2019.
Update: the rezoning request will be presented to the McDonough city council on Thursday, March 5, at 6 pm in a workshop session followed by a public hearing and vote on Monday, March 16, at 6 pm. The McDonough Planning Commission will hold their public review session for the request on Tuesday, March 10, at 6 pm. All meetings are held at McDonough city hall on Keys Ferry Street and are free and open to the public to attend.
