Three GDOT projects that let in 2020

Happy New Year! Here are three Georgia DOT projects that let for construction in 2020.

Letting for construction represents the month bids are due from contractors to the state. The notice to proceed and first signs of construction usually occur within six to eight weeks after the let date.

State Route 81 at South River

Replacing the bridge on SR 81 between Henry and Newton Counties lets in June. Construction is estimated at sixteen months during which time an off-site detour will be implemented.

The off-site detour includes state route 20 and 212. Detours for the closure of a state route are required to follow other state routes resulting in the lengthy alternate route.

The conversion of exit 218 into a diverging diamond interchange lets in May. Construction will last ten to twelve months once started.

The DDI will be Henry County’s first and only the second in south metro Atlanta after the under-construction diverging diamond at I-285 and Camp Creek Pkwy. The design is in use at five locations in the north metro.

SR 155 at Panola Road

Installing a new roundabout on state route 155 lets in November. The design includes widening state route 155 in the vicinity of the intersection.

The first signs of construction will most likely happen in January 2021 avoiding any holiday-related work suspensions. Construction is estimated at less than one year.
