The McDonough city council has approved a contract for the construction of sidewalks along Simpson Street and Fairview Road. The contract will provide drainage improvements in addition to the new sidewalks.
The contract cost is $138,520.00 paid for through a combination of Community Development Block Grant funds and the city’s portion of the SPLOST IV program. $100,000 in CDBG funds are being utilized, with the remainder covered by SPLOST.
The contract was awarded to C&C Lovejoy LLC. The cost breaks down to include $15,000 for engineering, $71,655 for Simpson Street, and $51,865 for Fairview Road. The contract completion date is February 15, 2019.
The sidewalks will be four feet wide and four inches deep. The project along Simpson Street totals 770 linear feet and Fairview Road totals 800 linear feet.
Last year, McDonough utilized $276,910.00 in SPLOST IV funding to construct sidewalks along Bridges Road, Veterans Drive, and Racetrack Road. The city’s sidewalk connectivity program has one million dollars budgeted in SPLOST IV to improve pedestrian mobility around the city.
