The McDonough council has approved hiring a local engineering company to design sidewalks along SR 155. The project extends from Keys Ferry Street to Racetrack Road near McDonough High School.
SR 155 Sidewalks Design
The McDonough council approved at their March 6 meeting to hire Falcon Design Consultants, based in Stockbridge, to design the State Route 155 sidewalks. The project design includes the following:
- SR 155 / South Zack Hinton Parkway, from Racetrack Road to Keys Ferry Street on the east side of SR 155, to fill-in gaps where sidewalks do not presently exist and to consider widening the existing sidewalks where feasible,
- SR 155 / S Zack Hinton Pkwy, from Postmaster Drive to Cap Welch Drive (Richard Craig Park) on the west side of SR 155, and
- Cola Welch Drive, from SR 155 to the apartments on the north side of Cola Welch Drive.
The design contract includes the following tasks: locate utilities, survey database preparation, construction drawings, contract documents & technical specs, survey plats & legal descriptions, landscape plan, and construction management. The proposed design calls for a six-foot wide sidewalk with a 2’ wide grass strip where feasibile.
The design cost is $94,170. The city will pay for the design work out of SPLOST VI. There's no estimate available how long the design work will take. Once complete, the city can then proceed forward to right of way acqusition (if any is necessary) and construction.
In August 2019, the McDonough council approved a design contract for sidewalks in the same area. Subsequent updates were not shared during that time period.
