McDonough Approved A Design Contract for Highway 155 Sidewalks

The McDonough city council took another step this week towards improving pedestrian infrastructure within city limits by approving a design contract for sidewalks along highway 155. The $19,900 contract is funded through SPLOST IV.

The contract was awarded to Mallett Consulting, Inc. of Fayetteville, Georgia to design sidewalks along three sections of highway 155 south:

  • East side – Bryan Street to College Street
  • West side – College Street to Postmaster Drive
  • West side – Cap Welch to Commerce Pl

The proposed sidewalks are in the vicinity of McDonough High School and Richard Craig Park. Council members and city staff have stated on multiple occasions a goal to provide sidewalks around these major youth destinations.

McDonough Sidewalk Connectivity Program

This week’s design contract is phase II of the city’s sidewalk connectivity program. Phase I of the plan installed sidewalks on three streets in 2017.

The program is funded through one million dollars in SPLOST IV funds. An additional $1.1 million is included within the city’s SPLOST V project list should the referendum pass in November.
