MHF editor Clayton Carte selected to be SPLOST V Chairman

The SPLOST V planning committee kickoff meeting was held on July 23. Moving Henry Forward editor Clayton Carte has been selected to serve as the committee chairman. Carlotta Harrell from district V was selected to be the committee vice-chair.

The committee members are below, followed by their appointing official:

  • Clayton Carte – county chair
  • Claud Spinks – county manager
  • Tom Israel – district I
  • Arnold Cole – district II
  • Mike Elrod – district III
  • Harold Jenkins – district IV
  • Carlotta Harrell – district V

County staff presented a synopsis of the SPLOST program history to those in attendance. The first SPLOST program was approved by voters in September 1996, and three subsequent programs have been approved since then. The current program is set to end collections on March 31, 2020; and if approved by voters, SPLOST V will be a continuation of the existing tax.

The next committee meeting will be on August 9 at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held within district I at the Locust Grove senior center.
