The North Ola master plan held its first public meeting in December 2024. A second North Ola master plan stakeholder meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 6, at 6 pm. It will be at the county admin building in McDonough.
Please note this is a change from the original meeting date. The original meeting date, January 23, was postponed because of winter weather.
North Ola Master Plan Stakeholder Meeting
The North Ola or Timber Ridge master plan covers an area about 7,500 +/- acres. It includes the area around Timber Ridge Elementary, East Lake Road at North Ola Road, and the general vicinity. The plan has the following goals:
- Manage responsible growth while preserving the rural character that makes this area of Henry County unique.
- Create development standards aimed at directing growth in ways that respect and enhance our rural landscape.
- Create architectural standards to maintain aesthetic consistency and uphold the architectural character of the area.
- Promote and create environmental and community protections focused on safeguarding natural resources.
- Create an attractive and sustainable area that future generations of Henry County will be proud to call home.
- This Master Plan will NOT change the zoning of properties but will serve as a guide for future development anticipated over the next 20-30 years.
A moratorium is in effect while the master plan is in development. The moratorium prevents a property owner from filing a rezoning request in the subject area. Henry County adopted the original moratorium in May 2024 before expanding its area in October.
The full presentation from December 5, 2024 is below.
Some excerpts from the presentation include the following:
- a 200’ buffer along existing roadways would maintain the current rural aesthetic when driving, and provide screening from future development,
- several proposed road improvements to improve connectivity could include
- East Lake Road widening from SR 155 to SR 20,
- North Ola Road extension from East Lake Road to SR 20,
- Green Circle extension from Airline Road to North Ola Road Extension, and
- Cronan Drive extension from East Lake Road to Green Circle Extension
- new parks and trails would promote additional green space.
The plan also includes a review of the future land use map and architectural design standards. Visuals for these topics are part of the county’s presentation.
The February 6 meeting will share an additional update with stakeholders about the plan and its progress. The meeting is open to the public.
