Stockbridge and McDonough have both approved road resurfacing contracts in recent weeks. The two cities are investing a combined one million dollars to resurface local roads.

The spring 2024 resurfacing contracts are paid for by LMIG grant funds and SPLOST funds.

Spring 2024 Resurfacing Contracts

Stockbridge Resurfacing

First, the Stockbridge council approved a resurfacing contract on April 8, 2024. It pertains to resurfacing Old Conyers Road within city limits. Specifically, the city covers Old Conyers from East Atlanta to Mays Road. The remainder of Old Conyers Road is in unincorporated Henry County.

The city awarded the contract to East Coast Grading, Inc. of Madison, GA. The project cost equals $452 thousand. The city’s funding source comes from GDOT supplemental LMIG funds, worth $373,698.20. The balance, $78,098.30, will be out of SPLOST V collections.

The road work is an approved change order to the city’s 2023 resurfacing contract. They originally contracted with East Coast Grading last summer for $2.3 million dollars of work.

McDonough Resurfacing

Secondly, McDonough approved a resurfacing contract at its May 2, 2024 meeting. They will be spending $614 thousand to resurface three miles of city streets. Onsite Paving of McDonough submitted the lowest bid of six vendors.

The city will use its 2023 LMIG funds to pay for the work. This amount is equal to $267,287.61. The remaining costs, $344,468.03, will be from SPLOST IV collections. The SPLOST IV program spanned collections from 2014–2020.

The streets for resurfacing are located in the downtown district. Some roads slated for resurfacing include the following:

  • Sloan Street, between Hampton Street and Bryan Street,
  • Hood Street, from Sims Street (SR 155) to Lawrenceville Street,
  • Turner Street, between Sims Street (SR 155) and Zack Hinton Pkwy, and
  • Cleveland Street, from John Frank Ward Blvd to College Street.

Previously, the city used its 2022 LMIG dollars to resurface streets in the Blacksville community. The council awarded that contract in September 2022. Onsite Paving was the lowest bidder at that time as well.
