Locust Grove has approved plans for a new four-way stop on Tanger Blvd. The four-way stop will be an interim step until funding allows for a roundabout.
The four-way stop will be at Tanger Blvd and Indian Creek Road.
Four-Way Stop on Tanger Blvd
The Locust Grove council approved in January to move forward with the four-way stop on Tanger Blvd. Council approval occurred at the January 16 meeting. The four-way stop was the recommendation of the city’s engineer, WSP Engineers. The city hired WSP in October 2023 to review the intersection.
WSP found the following in their report:
- Crashes at the intersection have increased since 2020. From 2013 to 2019, the location averaged three crashes per year. Since 2020, the intersection has averaged ten crashes per year.
- The intersection does not meet the requirements for a traffic signal.
- A four-way stop would be a satisfactory short-term improvement.
- A roundabout would operate at acceptable levels, and should be considered for long-term improvement.
The new four-way stop will become operational in the near future. Advance notice will be provided via message boards before the four-way stop goes into effect.
In addition, the city is looking to include the roundabout within its SPLOST VI project list. The county and cities are presently considering projects for SPLOST VI. Voters will consider whether to approve it on the November 2024 ballot.
