Henry County officials and staff gathered Thursday at Nash Farm Park to celebrate the opening of a new event pavilion. The park is located off Jonesboro Road on the western side of Henry County.

The 2,460 square foot event space includes a stacked stone fireplace and curved seat wall. It can accommodate seating for up to 225 guests.

Nash Farm Park Event Pavilion

Architectural plans for a new event pavilion began in early 2021. But the idea is much older. The county developed a master plan for the park in 2009. The SPLOST V program set aside $3.3 million to help implement the plan. The new pavilion was the first project undertaken from the plan. The county awarded its construction in summer 2022.

Lynn Planchon, the county’s director of capital projects, expects the space is large enough to accommodate events of many kinds. “We are excited for residents to come see this space,” said Planchon. “It’s a beautiful design. One that will be perfect for all kinds of special events including weddings.”

The pavilion sits atop a hill overlooking Nash Farm Park. It is now available for rent through the Parks & Recreation department.

District 5 Commissioner Kevin Lewis said he is elated for the opening of the new facility and hopes it will be a great amenity for residents. “We are extremely excited for the opening of the new event pavilion. We hope everyone will enjoy this new facility and all Nash Farm Park has to offer,” said Lewis.

Sayer Construction Group, LLC completed the build. It cost $1,160,000. Croft & Associates, Inc. performed design work for an additional $98,500.

Improvements on Deck

Next up, Henry County has sought an architect to design a new greenhouse and theater renovations. The request for vendors closed in May. Three firms responded. County staff will review the three firms before recommending a contract award. The board of commissioners will then consider approving it.

After the event pavilion, the SPLOST V program has about $1.9 million remaining for Nash Farm Park improvements. A full overview of SPLOST projects is available on the county website.
