Henry County commissioners approved a design contract for the future widening of Fairview Road. The project extends between Hearn Road and state route 155.

The widening is in addition to another widening project between Home Depot and Hearn Road. When both projects are complete, Fairview Road will be a continuous four-lane road across north Henry County.

Fairview Road widening

The Fairview Road widening project extends for about 2.40 miles. Presently, the road is a two-lane road. The widening project will expand the road to have four lanes with a center median. The project will also re-align Austin Road with Swan Lake Road.

Finally, sidewalks and a multiuse path will be part of the plans. The new path will tie into the Panola Mountain Greenway Trail.

NV5 Engineers and Consultants, Inc. of Alpharetta, GA will complete the project design. The engineering work will cost the county $1,634,852.44. Design work typically requires 1–2 years for projects of similar size.

Henry County Transportation SPLOST is paying for the widening work. Voters approved T-SPLOST in fall 2021. The project has an overall budget of $12 million dollars.

Widening Phase I

The Henry County SPLOST V program — approved by voters in fall 2019 — has a separate Fairview Road project. The SPLOST V project will widen Fairview Road between Home Depot and Hearn Road.

Design work began in January 2021. Henry County received the final plans for review in October 2022. Right of way acquisition will follow next. Lastly, construction could begin in either 2024 or 2025.

SPLOST V has a $11 million dollar budget for the phase I work. As of December 2022, expenditures to date total $286,000.
