Locust Grove Police Chief Derrick Austin shared with the council on Monday night two recent emails he had received from residents. Both emails thanked Police Officer Demarkus Hutcherson for helping out.
In the first email, dated August 5, the resident thanked Officer Hutcherson for distributing book bags to kids who needed them. In addition, she thanked him for delivering them directly to families. Officer Hutcherson also purchased a pair of shoes for two kids. The purchases were made out of pocket by the officer. “Its officers like [Officer] Hutcherson that we need in the community,†said the resident.
Finally, Chief Austin shared a second email received on August 17. Patricia Buckner was in need of new boots to start a new job. When asked while on duty at Walmart if he had a spare pair she could have, Officer Hutcherson instead went inside the store with her and purchased a pair. This allowed Buckner to start the new job.
In addition, the new job has provided Buckner with the funds to move out of a homeless shelter. She recently moved into a new apartment. She attended Monday night’s council meeting and thanked Officer Hutcherson for his actions.
