In today’s Henry Minutes, I provide updates on three county parks: Nash Farm, North Ola Park and Mickie D. Cochran Park. Henry Minutes is a collection of news from around Henry County.

Mickie D. Cochran Park

Earlier this year, the county held a groundbreaking ceremony for renovations at Mickie D. Cochran Park. Now, they are accepting proposals for the design & build of the renovations. Contractors’ proposals are due before September 8.

The selected builder will demolish all existing structures at the park. The new concept includes the following:

  • Concession / Restroom building
  • Large & small pavilions
  • Restroom building
  • Score Keeper’s building
  • Concrete paved plaza
  • Large & small playgrounds
  • Outdoor fitness area
  • Warm-up / practice area
  • Multi-purpose sports field
  • New tennis court
  • Two (2) new basketball courts
  • Quarter-mile paved loop track
  • Natural surface trail & boardwalk, and
  • Parking lot

Staff will review the proposals received. Afterwards, they will recommend a contractor to the board of commissioners for approval.

Nash Farm Park

During their July 20 meeting, the BOC approved a change order for Nash Farm Park. Previously, the board awarded a contract for a new playground.

The change order provides for a rubber safety surface at a cost of $60,989.50. Because the change order was more than $50k, it required board approval.

GameTime / Dominica Recreation Products, Inc. of Longwood, FL. has the contract. SPLOST V funds are paying for the work.

North Ola Park

Also at the July 20 meeting, the county approved buying property beside North Ola Park. The 1.15-acre tract is located at 398 North Ola Road. The property is immediately adjacent to the existing park entrance.

The property purchase will allow Henry County to construct a new wider entrance into the park. At this time, the county has not awarded construction for the new entrance.
