The Henry County Board of Commissioners awarded two contracts for intersection projects. The board approved the items during its May 18, 2021 meeting. They include projects on both Turner Church Road and Greenwood Industrial Parkway.
SPLOST V collections are funding both projects. Voters approved the SPLOST V program in November 2019. Collections continue through March 2025.
SR 155 at Greenwood Industrial
The first project is located at state route 155 and Greenwood Industrial. The project plans to add a traffic signal. The intersection is in district two.
The county awarded the bid to GTG Traffic Signals of Marietta, GA. Construction costs equal $325,000. The contractor will have 180 days to complete the project.
Henry County awarded a design contract to Kimley-Horn in October 2020. Kimley-Horn completed the design plans in March. The project is able to move into construction quickly because Georgia DOT previously completed a traffic study at the location. All intersection improvements on state highways require the state’s approval beforehand.
SR 20 at Turner Church Road
In addition, Henry County awarded the contract to build a roundabout at state route 20 and Turner Church Road. The project has an estimated build time of three-hundred days.
Quality Construction by McLeroy, Inc. of Zebulon, GA received the work. They submitted the low bid of $1,900,732.85.
Nearby residents advocated for improvements following the re-alignment of Turner Church Road in 2019. The location saw an increase in the number of accidents after the re-alignment. A four-way stop was installed as a temporary measure. Later, GDOT installed the present-day traffic signal. Both were in preparation for the roundabout project.
District III budgeted $2.07 million for the project in SPLOST V. Georgia DOT also contributed $500,000 towards build costs.
