Future roundabout on SR 20 receives state contribution

Georgia DOT has committed $500,000 in LMIG funding towards the future roundabout at state route 20 and Turner Church Road in McDonough. The project is expected to go out for construction bids in early 2021.

On Tuesday, April 7, county commissioners approved an application to receive the funding. The state awarded the funding in January 2020 and has programmed their contribution under state project ID S015333.

Henry County awarded the design contract to Kimley-Horn in February 2020. The design work is funded through SPLOST IV.

Dual Roundabouts planned at SR 20 and Lawrenceville / McGarity

Inside the city of McDonough, dual roundabouts are planned on state route 20 at the intersections of Lawrenceville Street and McGarity Road. The city approved a lighting agreement for the project in December 2019.

McDonough is contributing $300,000 from SPLOST IV towards the project. Total project costs are estimated at $4.3 million with the difference funded by house bill 170.

A public information open house about the project was anticipated in spring 2020, but all open houses have been postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Right of way acquisition starts in fall 2020. Construction lets in fall 2021.
