Henry County commissioners voted on Tuesday, August 4, to approve the creation of a transportation advisory group for the county. The new committee will consist of ten members.
The committee’s members will be comprised of one appointment from each county commissioner (6), and an appointment from each city (4). The county’s transportation planning director will serve as a non-voting member.

The new committee’s responsibilities will include reviewing the county’s comprehensive transportation plan (CTP) and recommending improvements, identifying appropriate public transit options for Henry County and its cities, and identifying sources of funding for transportation and transit projects within the county. The committee is expected to meet at least quarterly.
The committee’s creation comes at an appropriate time as Henry County is preparing to update its comprehensive transportation and transit plans, last updated in 2016, and develop its first countywide trails plan. The plan updates will be completed in 2021.
Appointed members should have demonstrable experience or education in one of more of the following areas: transportation planning, community development, or economic development. Henry County transportation planning director Sam Baker remarked he expects to have the group in place by the end of September.
