Henry County Transportation Safety Plan Survey

The Henry County transportation safety plan is being developed to improve transportation safety for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and others. The county applied for a federal grant in 2024 through the Safe Streets 4 All (SS4A) program to pay for the safety plan. The cities of Stockbridge, McDonough and Locust Grove are also participating.

On September 17, 2024, the Henry County Board of Commissioners selected Modern Mobility Partners, LLC to develop the safety plan. The project kicked off in October 2024. Planners expect it will be complete in July 2025.

Between 2019-2023, there were 46,927 reported crashes in Henry County. This resulted in 150 fatal crashes and 601 serious injury crashes. The most crashes in one year, 11,040 crashes, occurred in 2021.

From the overall number of crashes, 35 crashes involved a bicycle, 183 pedestrian-involved crashes and 420 crashes involved a motorcycle.

The safety plan will establish a “Vision Zero Goal” of zero-death and zero-serious injury in Henry County. It will also develop a prioritized list of road safety improvement projects. Completing the safety plan will enable Henry County and the participating cities to apply for federal road safety funding. The county would be ineligible to receive these funds without a safety plan.

Upcoming Public Meeting

The safety plan will host an upcoming public meeting on Thursday, February 13, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. The meeting will be virtual. Anyone may register here to participate in it.
