The McDonough city council approved variances for the upcoming Barrett Farms subdivision at their January 2 meeting. The variances were included within the council’s consent agenda and adopted without discussion.
The variances apply to eighteen lots out of the 141-lot subdivision. A reduction up to ten percent was granted to the front setback and minimum lot size. The lot size is now reduced from 12,000 square feet to 10,800 sq ft.
The city council annexed and rezoned the subdivision in May 2019. The sixty-two acre property is located on Lake Dow Road north of the roundabout with Rodgers / Rosser Roads.
In December, the city council rezoned thirty-five acres located nearby for seventy-six lots. That property is under construction after laying dormant over fifteen years since being annexed into the city.
The subdivisions are being developed by Blue River Development of Cumming, GA. The company has a third project proposed south of the Publix at Lake Dow shopping center. A rezoning request is pending for the 107 acre property.
