The McDonough City Council approved the annexation of sixty-two acres and rezoning to R-75 for property along Lake Dow Road to build a new subdivision. The council approved the request in May 2019.

Blue River Development of Cumming, GA plans to build 141 lots on 62.21 +/- acres located along the western side of Lake Dow Road north of its intersection with Rodgers and Rosser Roads. The property was zoned RA (residential agricultural) within unincorporated Henry County and the applicant has requested McDonough’s R-75 zoning district. The R-75 district is consistent with the adjacent Bridleridge subdivision and allows minimum lot sizes of 12,000 square feet.

The proposed development would generate an estimated 282 school age children. The property is zoned for Walnut Creek Elementary, McDonough Middle, and McDonough High. All three schools accepted applications for school choice transfers for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year implying the availability of capacity.
