The four-way stop will be temporary until GDOT can install a traffic signal in the first quarter of 2020.

The safety improvements are to reduce a number of crashes that have occurred at the location since Henry County SPLOST paved Turner Church, previously a dirt road, and realigned it in 2018. The Henry County Times requested and received a report from HCPD documenting eight accidents that occurred at the intersection between July 25 and October 22 of this year.

State and local officials have collaborated to make these improvements following expressed concerns by surrounding residents. Henry County budgeted two million dollars in the recently passed SPLOST V program to install a full-size roundabout at the location.

Henry County has the request for proposals (RFP) out now to design the roundabout. County staff will evaluate the proposals received and recommend to the board of commissioners who to award the contract. After the contract is awarded, the design process followed by right of way acquisition typically lasts two to three years for an intersection project.
