In what appears to be the first SPLOST V project moving forward, Henry County has posted a request for proposals (RFP) for qualified vendors to design intersection improvements at state route 20 and Turner Church Road. Nearby residents have been vocal in asking the county to accelerate the project.

SPLOST V was approved by voters earlier this month and will start collections in April 2020. The program includes two million dollars in commission district III projects to improve the intersection.

Since highway 20 is a state route, Georgia DOT has jurisdiction over the roadway and any improvements. GDOT prefers roundabouts over traffic signals in many locations, given their safety benefits and improved operations, and the county’s RFP states the design will be a roundabout.

The RFP is due December 19. Henry County staff will evaluate the proposals and make a recommendation to the board of commissioners for awarding the contract in 2020.
