Henry County is advising motorists that a portion of Hampton-Locust Grove Road will be closed beginning Thursday, November 21, at 9 am. The closure is located east of Simpson Mill Road and is expected to last one week.

A signed detour will be provided along Simpson Mill Road, Georgia 20, Westridge Parkway, Georgia 155, and Walker Drive. The closure was originally scheduled to begin on Friday morning but county staff worked with the contractor to adjust the schedule due to this weekend’s weather forecast.

The closure is part of an ongoing SPLOST IV project to install a new traffic light at the intersection. In order to improve the existing vertical alignment and provide a safe minimum sight distance for the new signal, Hampton-Locust Grove Road must be raised east of the intersection and an existing box culvert expanded to support the additional height. The closure will allow contractors to complete this portion of the project.

Commissioners awarded construction for the project in May. The work is being completed by CMES, Inc. of Norcross, GA in the amount of $1,531,092.00.
