The McDonough city council voted at its July 15 meeting to reject a proposed development consisting of apartments and townhomes along McDonough Parkway. The annexation and rezoning request had been in mediation since last fall.
District 2 councilwoman Sandra Vincent, whose district the property is located in, shared she could not support the project as presented after it was her understanding the public had no interest in the proposed development. The city council’s vote to reject the proposal by Double Eagle Land Development was unanimous.
The property is zoned R-3 (single-family residential) within unincorporated Henry County. The applicant could develop an R-3 subdivision, subject to the county’s zoning ordinances and any zoning conditions on the property, if they so choose.
Application was originally submitted in summer 2018
The initial annexation and rezoning request was submitted in August 2018 by Double Eagle Land Development. The applicant had applied to annex 62.24 acres into the city of McDonough and concurrently be rezoned from C-1 and R-3 to RM-75 (multifamily residential) and RTD (residential townhome district).
Henry County objected to the proposed annexation and rezoning in November 2018 halting the city’s zoning process and sending the case to mediation. The result of that mediation was a proposed agreement that would label the property “Planned Unit Development†on McDonough’s future land use map and prevent the city from changing the property’s zoning until after August 24, 2019. The city council’s vote to reject the proposed agreement should end the discussion about this property being annexed into McDonough.
