Update: the McDonough city council approved annexation for the former Ruby Tuesday tract on August 1. A second vote is required at a later date to consider annexation for the Waffle House tract.

An annexation request for 1.11 +/- acres, located at the northeast corner of I-75 exit 218 / SR 20, will be considered by the McDonough city council next month. The property, identifiable as the now-closed Ruby Tuesday restaurant, is proposed to be redeveloped into commercial space and an oil change business.

ForCAST Real Estate Development of Atlanta, GA has submitted the request for annexation with a lateral rezoning to McDonough’s C-2 (central commercial) zoning district. The property is currently zoned C-2 (general commercial) within unincorporated Henry County.

An internet search for the developer finds few results, with only one other rezoning request appearing. The company proposed commercial space and townhomes in Fayetteville in December 2017.

The city council will preview the request in a workshop session on Monday, July 1, at 6 pm. Public hearings will follow before the municipal planning commission on Tuesday, June 9, at 6 pm and city council on Monday, June 15, at 6 pm. All meetings are held at McDonough city hall on Keys Ferry Street and are open to the public.

Note: the annexation request is for the Ruby Tuesday tract only; however, the concept site plan also includes redevelopment of the Waffle House site. A separate annexation request must be submitted and considered by the city council for the second tract.
