The proposed I-75 interchange at Bethlehem Road continues to move forward with the Request for Proposals for design services now available. Moving Henry Forward reported last month that the federal highway administration approved the interchange justification report.

The RFP “is requesting non-cost technical proposals [from] qualified firm to prepare the environmental process as well as the design of the new interchange.” Consulting firms with experience in working with FHWA and Georgia DOT on interchange design will apply for the contract and be evaluated on a competitive rubric before Henry County selects a firm. Companies will be evaluated based on qualifications, experience, and project understanding.

Proposals are due by January 10, 2019. Once staff completes their evaluation, the Henry County BOC will be asked to approve a contract. Preliminary engineering is estimated to take two to three years to complete.

The Bethlehem Road interchange is a SPLOST IV project. $5.5 million was budgeted within SPLOST by Henry County with expenditures to date totaling $238,673. Additional funding will be included within SPLOST V to cover local match requirements towards state and federal dollars for right of way acquisition and construction. Total project costs are estimated at $40-50 million.

The RFP documents are available on the county website.
