A number of construction projects are making progress within Henry County Schools. Here’s a summary of the most recent update by school board staff.
McDonough High School and Middle School are on pace to complete construction in May. The new schools are looking great with athletic facilities taking shape and building segments in various stages of construction.
The two schools have total construction costs of $75,144,000. The education SPLOST V program is authorized to sell a maximum of $325,000,000 in bonds.
A major focus within E-SPLOST V is renovating every school in the district. Seventeen renovations/additions were completed in E-SPLOST IV (2013-2017) and the remaining thirty-five schools are included in the current program.
School renovations groups 6, 7, and 8 have completion dates of July 2019. These groups include the Union Grove cluster, Luella cluster, and Dutchtown cluster totaling fifteen schools.
School renovation group 9 involves the Ola cluster and is estimated to be completed in December 2019. Group 10 is in pre-construction for the Woodland cluster. One group remains to be bid out before completing the renovations.
The Fairview Performing Arts Center has completed demolition of existing structures and secured permits to start construction activities. The $17.2 million dollar project will be completed in December 2019.
Adding HVAC to seven middle school gyms will be completed by December. The board approved the bid for turf fields at Eagle’s Landing, Hampton and McDonough High Schools in September and approved the low bid for renovations / expansion at central office facilities this month.
